U.S. Sanctions with Uganda Anti-Homosexuality Act Back to Parliament -

By Melanie Nathan, April 26,2023

From Uganda's Parliament session today, African Human Rights Coalition updates the following directly from NBS television's facebook page:

"Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa reading the President's letter on the Anti-Homosexuality Bill: I (the President) hereby refer the Bill to the Committee on Legal and Parliamentary Affairs to expeditiously handle it because Ugandans are highly waiting for this Bill."

"Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa reading the letter from the President on the Anti-Homosexual Bill: Among the provisions to be reconsidered and reviewed by Parliament include; distinguishing between being a homosexual and engaging in acts of homosexuality. It is important to recognise that the suspicions, allegations, or beliefs of some individuals being homosexuals have been with our society for some time."

The Bill is clearly presenting a problem for Museveni. The 33 year dictator is faced with leading his country into sanctions as threatened by the United States. Already it is reported that the State department is denying entry into the United States for Ugandan politicians and others who are now on the record as having perpetrated serious human rights abuses in their country. Indeed the verbiage used in parliament by MP's, the resulting passage of the Anti-Homosexuality Act 2023, (known as The Kill the Gays Bill) and the license it has already provided to heighten persecution, discrimination and the violence against Uganda's LGBTQI community denotes clear human rights abuses for which the Parliamentarians are directly responsible.

According to Ugandan Press:

It is also reported that the United States has redirected funds involving Ugandan Police Programs, Ministry of Health, and has cancelled plans to conduct aviation exercises in the country. Ugandan police have engaged in serious human rights abuses against LGBTI people to include unlawful detentions, blackmail, forced anal exams, torture and at African Human Rights Coalition we have several reports of rape to add to this list of reporting that we have received directly. Of course the U.S. cannot continue to fund what amounts to serious human rights infractions.

I am wondering if a Company such as APPLE which has an OUT Gay executive such as CEO Tim Cook. Is APPLE liable for a fine based on criminality through any operations in Uganda? Will this force American and other equality based countries out of Uganda who themselves will make it too onerous to do business? What about all those American companies touting DEI, and fostering LGBTQI+ Employee Resource Groups (ERG's):

To provide a flavor of the country conditions, one only has to look at the comments on the NBS Television Facebook page (above pic) , for the above post:
