🌍 A Global Emergency — And a Shared Responsibility
As Americans debate their own culture wars—and as democracies across the world teeter—a quiet crisis continues to unfold across Africa, one that reflects our own. From Uganda to Ghana, LGBTQI+ people are being hunted, imprisoned, tortured, and silenced under so-called “morality” laws.
But these laws are not home-grown. They build on colonial-era penal codes and are fueled by U.S.-based extremists, exporting hate under the guise of “family values.” Their playbook is tested abroad, only to be brought back home.
At African Human Rights Coalition (AHRC), we see the human toll every day. We document persecution, aid refugees, support asylum seekers, and advocate with courageous African defenders risking everything for equality.
Your donation keeps that work alive during this very difficult time.
Why This Matters — Wherever You Live
1️⃣ Because Persecution Anywhere Weakens Liberty Everywhere
What begins in Kampala doesn’t stay there. The same ideology inspiring anti-LGBT laws in Africa reappears in Western classrooms, churches, and courts. The hate we ignore abroad returns home rebranded.
2️⃣ Because Democracy and Human Rights Are Interdependent
When governments criminalize identity, it sets a precedent for all oppression. Supporting African LGBTQI+ communities is part of defending rule of law, press freedom, and pluralism globally.
3️⃣ Because Public Health and Safety Depend on Equality
Criminalization undermines HIV prevention, drives people underground, and endangers entire health systems. The U.S. and Europe’s global HIV goals collapse if key populations are persecuted.
4️⃣ Because Africa’s Story Is Personal
Millions of Africans in the diaspora—throughout Europe, Canada, and Africa itself have families participating in this persecution. We are the only family and it’s a family emergency.
5️⃣ Because African Voices Need Allies, Not Saviors
AHRC partners with local activists, lawyers, and journalists who lead their own liberation. True solidarity means funding local leadership, amplifying their voices, and protecting their right to fight for their own future.
What Your Support Makes Possible
Your contribution directly funds life-saving programs:
Emergency Shelter, Food Programs & Evacuation for those facing imminent harm
Legal Aid & Expert Affidavits for asylum seekers globally
Monthly Rents to Trusted Safe Houses advancing equality and safety
Documentation & Advocacy to hold governments accountable
Awareness through Briefings to counter hate and misinformation
Advocacy to Governments, Agencies and Civil Society
The Global Stakes
The ideology behind today’s African anti-LGBT laws—the same extremism embedded in Project 2025—is being refined abroad for use at home. What is tested on African soil today is rehearsed for the U.S., Europe, and Canada tomorrow.
Consider that contributing is defending LGBTQI+ Africans and as such is less about charity. It is a defense of democracy itself.
