AHRC, April 26, 2026.
The African Human Rights Coalition (AHRC) is experiencing a sharp surge in urgent calls from Senegal, marked by panic, credible threats, and pleas for immediate protection following the escalation of laws, arrests, lengthy detentions, and rhetoric targeting LGBT individuals. Reports describe individuals being actively sought out, with fear spreading rapidly through communities already living on the margins. At present, there are virtually no resources available to respond to these emergencies. As Melanie Nathan explains, it is not uncommon in this context for so-called “hunts” to accompany or justify the tightening of laws, creating a dangerous cycle of persecution and enforcement.
AHRC is urgently calling for donations to launch new emergency response programming providing safe shelter, food, relocation support, and legal assistance to those at immediate risk.
Without rapid support, lives will remain in imminent danger. DONATIONS HERE
