While Temple University Continues to Host an Event
President John Dramani Mahama campaigned on the promise of signing Ghana's new harsh Anti-LGBTQI+ law which seeks to criminalize identity - merely "holding out" to be LGBTQI+ , as well as allies and advocates.
The former President of Ghana avoided signing the law which had previously passed - during his term. That legislation lapsed before he termed out and he escaped attestation.
The New President, Mahama is now faced with keeping his promise to sign the law as soon as it passes in Parliament. which it is destined to do, given that 98% of the Members of Parliament support it. The Bill is currently in Committee phase.
Lincoln University in Penssylvania, has cancelled the planned visit and honorary doctorate for President John Dramani Mahama mere days before the event.
The Ghana Embassy in the United States says the decision followed concerns raised about his perceived stance on Ghana’s anti-LGBTQ bill currently before the Parliament of Ghana.
The move highlights growing international scrutiny over the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025 and its potential impact on human rights, diplomacy, and Ghana’s global reputation. AFRICAN HUMAN RIGHTS COALITION:

This very President who is about to sign one of the harshest legislations ever to hit the planet for LGBTQI+ people is scheduled to speak on Thursday at Temple University in Philadelphia. They should cancel his visit too.
