Tell Chris Christie: We welcome refugees, and we reject bigotry and fear-mongering.
Thanks to Amnesty International USA Tarah Demant, Senior Director, Identity and Discrimination Unit at Amnesty International USA for this important call to action, which I hope our readers will participate in:- "Dangerous anti-refugee rhetoric is getting louder than ever. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie just announced that the state is pulling out of the U.S. government's refugee resettlement program. This comes on the heels of Gov. Christie saying that the state would refuse to accept Syrian refugees—citing the recent attacks in Paris. He even said he would block a 5-year-old orphan from being resettled in the U.S. Tell Chris Christie: We welcome refugees, and we reject bigotry and fear-mongering. The refugee resettlement process is already extremely rigorous and safe. We need to tell Chris Christie to reverse this dangerous decision. Everyone has the right to safe haven from persecution, and all governments have an obligation not to force refugees back into situations where they will be at risk. We have a responsibility to do more—not less—to help refugees. Sign our petition to Gov. Christie now. And help spread the word on Twitter and Facebook. We're going to send Chris Christie a message he can't ignore. This isn't just happening in New Jersey. We need to raise our voices any time refugees are attacked, and press local officials to welcome refugees. Use our toolkit to take action in your community."
